Fridge Slides

A sideways fridge slide is suitable for 4WDs and Utes with a back or sideways opening canopy.

Made from 3mm aluminium, they are available in a range of standard sizes, but can be customised to suit your exact size requirements. Standard sizes include 50L and under, 60L and over, 80L and over, and 95L and over, as follows:

• 50L and under: 675mm W x 408mm L
• 60L and over: 805 W x 510mm L
• 80L and over: 905 W x 525mm L
• 95L and over: 950mm W x 550mm L

As you can see from these measurements, these fridge slides are wider than they are long, which allows for sliding your fridge out sideways. They are suitable for many fridges, but some you may know are Engel, Waeco and Evakool. All of these models operate with a 227kg locking drawer slide, except for the 50L and below, which operates with a 125kg locking drawer slide. These locking drawer slides lock in both the fully closed and open positions. This is an added safety feature that ensures the fridge slide won’t accidentally slide open in transit or when you park on a slope and it won’t slide backwards if someone knocks it when it’s open.

A key feature of these sideways fridge slides is that they are pretty lightweight, so they shouldn’t cause a problem with your GVM. They also open to their full extension so it’s easy to reach food tucked away in the back of the fridge. You can also install these sideways fridge slides on top of Dunn & Watson Drawer systems, increasing the storage space in the back of your Ute or 4WD pickup. The drop down fridge slide is suitable for 4WD pickups and Utes with back access and side access canopies. They are usually positioned on top of cargo drawer systems or a false floor, as this makes accessing your fridge much easier due to its increased height. If you have a tailgate, make sure that the height of the drawer doesn’t impede the movement of the drop down slide, allowing it to lock into its full extension (the drop down slide and the sideways drop down slides both have a 300mm drop).

They are both fitted with a 227kg locking drawer slide that secures the slide in the fully closed and fully extended positions. This is a safety feature that prevents your fridge from moving in transit. In addition, both have a key lock on the front of the tray, giving you a second safety feature to prevent movement of the slide when in the closed position. They are available in a variety of sizes.

The drawer systems are made from solid aluminium and are designed to give you 25% more internal space than other brands. They are built tough for heavy loads and are designed for specific vehicles, such as Ford Ranger, Holden Colorado, and so on. The MSA fridge barrier cage is a great additional extra as it allows you to store much more gear around your fridge without impeding the use of the fridge slide. There are 16 different models and the height is adjustable.

The aim of these fridge slides is to slide the fridge forward and tilt it downwards so that you can easily see inside the fridge and access its contents. These Dunn & Watson fridge slides are available in 50L and under, 60L and over, 80L and over, and 95L and over, but can be custom made to suit your needs. Sizes are as follows (we add an additional 10mm to both the length and width to allow for the 6mm stainless steel rivet heads):

• 50L and under: 395mm W x 675mm L
• 60L and over: 525 W x 805mm L
• 80L and over: 525 W x 905mm L
• 95L and over: 550mm W x 950mm L

These slides are the same size as the standard fridge slides with the main difference being that they tilt your fridge forward and down. The 50L and under and the 60L and over fridge slides are made from 3mm aluminium, whilst the 80L and over and the 95L and over are made from 4mm aluminium. The 50L and under fridge slide operates with a 125kg locking drawer slide, whilst the 60L and over, 80L and over, and 95L and over, operate with the heavy duty 227kg locking drawer slides. These locking drawer slides ensure that the fridge remains in place in the fully closed and fully extended positions to prevent accidents. They are also fitted with Dunn & Watson gas struts that make the operation of these fridge slides effortless.

Slide and tilt fridge slides are easy to use, you simply unlock the tray and slide it towards you, then pivot it downwards. Access what you need in the fridge, use the gas assisted struts to lift it back to horizontal, and then slide it back and lock in place. A sideways tilt fridge slide is suitable for Utes and 4WD pickups with back or side entry canopies.

If you have a tailgate on the back however, the fridge needs to be positioned on top of a cargo drawer with enough height to allow the slide to tilt down to its full extension (most people use tilt slides because they position them on top of cargo drawers, but it’s still worth mentioning the potential problems with tailgates).

These are lightweight units, so you shouldn’t have any problems with your vehicle’s GVM (always check your vehicle’s GVM to ensure that you don’t overload your vehicle).
