The Dunn & Watson 45kg Standard Stainless Steel Drawer Slides are ideal for tradies and campers who have drawer systems or toolboxes installed in the back of their Utes, 4WDs, caravans or RV motorhomes. In fact, they are perfect for any outdoor application where you want your drawers to glide effortlessly open and closed. 

However, the fact that they’re made from stainless steel, means that they’re particularly suited to coastal areas or regions with a lot of moisture or rainfall. Stainless steel is also the metal of choice for marine applications and these Dunn & Watson drawer slides are extremely popular with boaties.

What sizes are available?

These 45kg Standard Stainless Steel Drawer Slides are available in seven different lengths from 300mm up to 600mm. Each opens to its full extension, which means that if you install a pair of 500mm drawer slides, they will open to a length of 500mm when fully extended. This full extension makes it easy to access anything towards the back of the drawers

How do these 45kg drawer slides operate?

Once installed, these drawer slides are very simple to use and make opening and closing your drawers effortless. To open the drawer, you pull the draw towards you and to close, you push it backwards until fully closed. With these drawer slides, you won’t need to worry about drawers sticking anymore!

What if I need a bigger weight tolerance?

These 45kg Standard Stainless Steel Drawer Slides are designed to take a maximum weight of 45kg at full extension, so they are considered to be light-weight drawer slides. However, these figures were calculated on a 500mm square drawer. What this means is that as the length of the drawer slide becomes longer, the weight tolerance at full extension decreases.

So for example, the 45kg drawer slides are available in 300mm to 600mm lengths with a 100% extension. This is fine until you reach the 550mm and the 600mm length drawer slides, where the full extension means that the weight tolerance is reduced to 40kg and 35kg respectively. So you not only need to consider the length of the drawer slides when making your selection, but also whether it offers a full extension and its weight tolerance. 

Another point to note is that if the 45kg weight tolerance isn’t sufficient for your project, you can either go up a size to a 60kg set of drawer slides or install a second pair of 45kg slides above the first pair. This second option isn’t to be recommended, however, because it doesn’t give you double the weight tolerance. Instead, the rule of thumb is that it gives you an extra 75% tolerance on the second pair. The ideal solution is to add more drawers and split the load rather than fit more slides.

Can these drawer slides be disconnected?

Yes, our light-weight 45kg Standard Stainless Steel Drawer Slides can be disconnected. This is particularly useful if you want to remove the drawer for any reason – maybe something has become lost down the back of the unit? So to disconnect the runners, all you need to do is to open them to their full extension, click the small trigger on the external side of the runner and pull the slide apart. They can be reconnected by pushing the sliders back together which automatically clicks them into place.

There are three reasons why it’s a good idea to install the Dunn & Watson 45kg Standard Stainless Steel Drawer Slides. First, because you work in a corrosive environment, for example near the coast or on the water. You might even travel to coastal areas for your holidays and want drawer slides that are not only strong and durable, but also won’t rust near the sea. These stainless steel slides are designed for these situations, so are perfect for your project.

Second is because your drawers won’t be holding much weight and so only require a pair of light-duty 45kg drawer slides. Anything with a greater weight tolerance is just overkill. Third is because you don’t need the light-duty Dunn & Watson 35kg locking drawer slides or our 60kg locking drawer slides (both are zinc plated). 

Locking drawer slides are only necessary if your drawers tend to slide open and closed in transit or when you are parked on a slope. If this isn’t a situation that occurs when you’re on the road, then you can save your money and install our standard, non-locking drawer slides.
