Everything you need to know about our Three Point Locking Folding T-Handle
The Dunn & Watson Three Point Locking Folding T-Handle is a versatile handle that’s used extensively in the manufacture of canopies, camper trailers and toolboxes. It’s heavily used for industrial and agricultural applications as well and includes two 1200mm rods that allow the unit to lock from three locations. This Folding T-Handle is front key locking, flush fitting and water resistant.
This type of handle is ideal for tradies who want to keep their toolboxes secure, as well as tools in the back of their Ute. It’s also ideal for campers who want to keep their belongings safe in the back of their Ute or camper trailer.
How does the three point locking Folding T-Handle work?
The great feature of this Folding T-Handle is that it has three locking points, despite only having one key entry point. This T-Handle is actually designed to work in conjunction with the two 1200mm rods that are included with your purchase, but it can also operate with cables, if you prefer. This set-up means that when the key on the front is turned, the toolbox, canopy or camper trailer is locked at three different points, massively increasing security.
The three point locking feature is derived from the three attachment points on the back of the unit: the tongue and two pins where the rods or cables are attached. These handles are particularly useful for wide doors because instead of needing three locks for example, you can use the one handle with three locking points.
Features of the three point locking T-Handle
On the front of the unit, the T-Handle folds out to give you a handle as well as a lock. It provides a firm and comfortable grip that allows you to easily open and close the drawer or door of your toolbox, canopy or camper trailer. This Folding T-Handle is also recessed into the unit, whilst the unit itself sits flush with the door or drawer front preventing it from catching on anything. It also comes with two 1200mm rods that can be cut down to fit your door. Front facing dimensions are 120mm in width and 100mm in height.

Benefits of the three point locking Folding T-Handle
The biggest benefit of the three point locking Folding T-Handle is increased security. With theft an on-going problem, particularly theft of trade tools from Utes, it definitely pays to keep everything under lock and key. This includes both your toolboxes and the canopy of your Ute, because thieves will target both in their rush to steal whatever they can, as quickly as possible. So installing a solid lock that actually locks at three different points makes it much harder for thieves to access your toolboxes and the back of your Ute.
Another benefit of a three point locking handle is reduced wear and tear. That’s because instead of having just one single locking point that can be worn down over time, the additional locking points take away some of this strain. Multi-point locking mechanisms are known to be much more durable and load bearing than single point locking mechanisms. A final benefit of using these three point locking handles is that you may be able to reduce your insurance premiums, given the additional security for your tools. That’s great news for your business!
Campers can also benefit from the increased security provided by these locking handles, as their belongings will be much safer kept under lock and key in their Ute, 4WD or camper trailer. This is particularly relevant with campers who are often away from their camper trailer, Ute or 4WD for long periods during the day. Additional security never goes amiss!
Other folding T-Handle options
If you have no need for a three point locking Folding T-Handle then we have a few other options that might suit your needs. These include the Dunn & Watson Powder Coated Folding Handles (Black, Red or Blue), all of which are also key locking, flush fitting, water resistant and come with a rubber gasket. The only differences are that they don’t have the three locking points or the 1200mm rods and they are powder coated to coordinate with your vehicle and they are rear fixing.
Another option that you might find suitable is our Black Compression Action Folding T-Handle that is designed to pull the door in very tight for superior dust and water protection. This option also comes with eyelets so that you can convert it into a three point locking handle, as well as a front key lock that can be padlocked. Made from polypropylene, it’s a lightweight unit that’s ideal for tailgates, drop side boards on utilities and any application where a very tight fit is required.
If you want a Folding T-Handle with the lot, then you need to check out the Dunn & Watson Power Whale Tail. It has a key and padlocking feature, as well as a compression feature that pulls the door shut very tightly and is rear fixing. It also has eyelets so that you can attach rods to convert it into a three point locking unit and it can be fitted to the central locking kit of your vehicle. This handle is the premier option for all your projects that require aesthetics, security and ease of use.
We also have another option you might be interested in and that’s our Stainless Rotary Locking. This handle isn’t seen very often in Australia, but it does have its uses, mainly that you can slam shut a door just as if it was a car door. It has all the standard features of our other T-Handles, such as key locking, flush fitting, water resistance and comes with a rubber gasket. Unlike most other options, however, the Rotary handle is front fixing and it has a rotary lock on the back.
