Everything you need to know about our Base Mount Stainless Steel Drawer Slides
The Dunn & Watson base mount stainless steel drawer slides are the perfect addition to your drawer systems. They can be installed in 4WDs, camper trailers, caravan and RVs, but are particularly designed for highly corrosive environments and are very popular on boats and ships.
That’s because our drawer slides make it super easy to open and close the drawers in your vehicle or boat, whether you are touring or working. Normally, our zinc coated drawer slides are right for most situations, but in coastal, salty or dusty areas, stainless steel gives you the durability you need in these extreme environments. Whichever type of drawer slide you select, whether stainless steel or zinc plated, our slides will help make it very easy to access the contents of your drawers.
What’s the size of the base mount stainless steel drawer slides?
The closed length of the Dunn & Watson base mount stainless steel drawer slides starts at 1150mm and increases to 1600mm. Given a ¾ extension that means that the drawers actually open to a minimum of 1060mm and up to 1380mm. However, as the extension increases the carrying capacity of the slides decreases accordingly. So at the minimum closed length of 1150mm, the slides have an extension of 1060mm and a carrying capacity of 90kg.
At the other end of the scale, if you select slides with a closed extension of 1600mm, it will have a 1380mm extension and a carrying capacity of only 60kg. So in making your selection, you need to not only consider the size slides you need, but also the weight of the drawer’s likely contents. If this seems complicated to you, there’s no need to worry. Just give us a call and one of our specialists will help you select the correct size slides for your project.
Features of the Dunn & Watson base mount stainless steel drawer slides
Considered as medium duty slides (also known as soft roller runners), these particular slides are made from stainless steel, so they’re ideal for corrosive environments. They’re also extremely strong and durable, so they can take quite a beating if you’re heading off-road. Another great feature is that they come with sealed ball bearings located at either end of the track, resulting in a smooth opening and closing operation. Even more important, the fact that these ball bearings are sealed helps to prevent dust and dirt from clogging the sliders and making them difficult to open and close.
These sliders also make it very easy to disconnect the drawer. This feature can be useful if you need to access something that has slipped down the back of the drawer system or to clean something that has been spilt inside the drawer. These are also non-locking drawer slides, which many people prefer, but we also have equivalent locking stainless steel drawer slides for other projects.

Why install our 100kg base mount stainless steel drawer slides?
There are three reasons why you would choose to install our 100kg base mount stainless steel drawer slides. First is because they are made from stainless steel and you need its high strength and durability because you are travelling or working in salty, dusty or sandy environments. Stainless steel won’t corrode so it’s perfect for coastal areas.
Second, the sealed ball bearings prevent dust and dirt getting into the tracks, because this will clog up the tracks and prevent the drawer from smoothly opening and closing. If these sealed ball bearings didn’t exist, then you would likely spend a significant amount of time cleaning the runners because opening and closing the drawer becomes increasingly difficult.
Third is because you want non-locking drawer slides, simply due to the fact that the drawers are unlikely to open in transit, so you don’t need more expensive locking slides. This is often the case when the front of your drawer systems are located right up to the canopy and there’s no room for them to swing open in transit. It can also be because you have a sliding bolt fitted to the front of the drawers that keeps them closed when not in use. Another reason why you might not want locking drawer slides is that they require an additional 25mm on the front end to accommodate the trigger mechanism, space that you might not have available in your vehicle.
How to know what stainless steel drawer slides you require
To select the right size drawer slides for your project, you need to consider three factors. First, what’s the interior length of your drawer? If it’s 1300mm, then 13000mm base mount stainless steel drawer slides simply won’t fit. You need the next size down, which is 1150mm or you will need to ask us to create a custom size to suit the specifications of your drawer system. On the other hand, if you are installing both Dunn & Watson drawer systems and non-locking slides, then we can match the slides to the drawers, so they fit perfectly. Just tell us the space available in your vehicle for the drawer system, including the length, width and height and we can help you with your order.
The second factor is how much of an extension do you need? The minimum extension for most projects is 70%, so the stainless steel slides will be fine, as they have a 75% extension. This allows you to reach anything at the back of the drawer with ease. However, if you need less than a 70% extension, then you might be better off with a hatch rather than a drawer and slides. The third factor is that the carrying capacity of the drawer slides becomes weaker as the slides become longer (as mentioned above). So you need to balance the extension you need vs the weight that you need to carry.
